Yessir. A horrendous public relations mistake today, that I don't think
Mr. Jobs will ever recover from unless he writes an apology. Mr. Ford is
among the top five or ten best and fairest-minded journalists in the
entire Macintosh press.

I read both Ric's letter, and Steve's reply. Considering the nasty shots Ric
Ford took at Steve first, I found it surprising that Steve even bothered to
reply. I've always thought of Ric Ford as a very level-headed, stable
influence in the Mac community. I was very surprised and saddened to see him
do this. It was uncalled for, and self-defeating right from the get-go.
And you calling him "Steve Judas" is simply amazing...this extremist hysteria
that is sweeping through the community is very sorrowful to see, and rather
embarrasing. Ric had a chance to perhaps get real facts instead of rumor-mill;
and he blew it by heaping astonishingly venomous insults on Steve without
waiting first to see what Steve would say.
I believe Steve has the strength of character and fortitude to ignore all this
'friendly fire' and continue on the course he and the board are choosing.
Unlike all those infected with Chicken Little disease, I for one have
confidence that they will do what is not only best for Apple and the Mac, but
perhaps even bring in something new and visionary that we'll all benefit from.
Something none of his critics can or would be able to do; if for no other
reason than for a lack of courage and class.
Go Steve!!!! :)

Hmm. I didn't think Ric's letter contained any "nasty shots". He first
explained why he was writing (and for those of us who earn our livings from
Macs rather than just using them, these are _very_ serious issues) and then
made a few postulations. They may have been extreme postulations, but he
clearly stated they were merely ideas. I'd hardly call that offensive.

I agree that making offensive puns on people's names is pointless and
rather immature. It would help if everyone could remain calm about this
issue, but regrettable (and understandably) tempers are running a little
high at the moment.
I fail to see any "venomous insults" in Ric's letter, though. He says he
finds Steve's actions "confusing and threatening", but I think many people
might agree with that.

Possibly you're right, and I hope so. I'd like to remain on the Macintosh
platform, and continue to advise others to do so. However, with the turmoil
that's currently occuring over licensing, I'm putting all purchases on
hold, and if (as many people have suggested) Steve intends to use the Mac
user base as a fundraiser to boost NetPC's, then I'll defect onto NT simply
as a matter of necessity... I have to pay the bills with this stuff!
Steve's reply was unnervingly brief, and also insulting... Perhaps worse,
though, is that he didn't contradict any of Ric's suggestions. That
wouldn't have taken more than a few minutes, and might have allayed an
awful lot of fears amongst the development and support community, many of
whom read Ric's page more often than Apple's own site.
And we're the people who are going to decide whether our companies either
write software for / purchase and support Macintosh computers.

Yes.... I too think that Steve Jobs should go.
(sorry, but multiple exclamation marks often bring out my facetious side.)

ObDisclaimer: This is all my own work. LLP Limited would almost certainly
protest complete ignorance, if they knew about it, which they don't. Okay?
:)

I'd have to agree there. Putting in those guesses was kind of like asking,
"Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

What a clod.
Mark, have you ever considered working in a library and speaking in a low,
calculated wisper?
I would suggest you stay off the internet and catch kids stepping outside
the lines at school crossings. They need policemen like you.

Steve is going to make sure that the Mac is as successful as the NeXT. A
great system that was far too expensive and had too little software. Steve
can't bear to see others take his ideas and go from there, he would rather
have a beautiful, exotic relic than a useful tool.
But we have to find something that will let us get work done.
: Go Steve!!!! :)
And the sooner the better

Jobs ruined the reputation of a company that no amount of PR will be
able to repair by his reply to Ric's letter.
*ANY* officer within any company that treats an institution like
Ric Ford's MacInTouch like Jobs did should be enrolled for a
basic PR course.
This man at the helm of Apple? Oh dear.

You must be kidding. Get two books: West of Eden, the End of Innocence
at Apple Computer, and SteveJobs, the Journey is the Reward. Read them
