Viruses cannot be transmitted by opening email, only by
opening attachments to email. This "warning" that you
have posted was sent by an ignorant user.
People should, of course, never open email attachments
from strangers.

Which brings up the point: email, by nature, isn't particularly picky
about guaranteeing that you are who you say you are. Just because you got
an email from your Aunt Doreen doesn't mean it was really sent by Aunt
Doreen.
That opens up all sorts of issues about email security, and cryptography,
and public-key signatures. But that's another post. ;-)
However, it seems that certain email packages (which shall remain
nameless) go out of their way to make it easy for you to blindly open up
any damn thing that anyone sends you. As if ease of use and security were
incompatible ideas. Sheesh.

Triple-Doofus on you for posting, not just in HTML, but in BOTH plain text
AND HTML, handily MIME-encoded.
Sheesh, why can't people get this through their heads. DON'T POST HTML TO
USENET!

Otherwise the ability to discuss HTML in text/plain messages would be hampered.
