...Mysteriously empty CD-ROMs???

Hi there!
I've got a new Sony 4X-CD drive installed in my Quadra 840av. Why do
some CDs not even register on it when you open the icon and others
work fine???
I've tried some photo CDs and other software ones and all I get in
empty folders (ie. the drive shows nothing on the CD).
Any help would be appreciated!

Just a guess, perhaps the CDs are not Mac CDs?
