I have used HyperCard for a number of years and am a devotee.
I have a stack which is loosely based on the address stack and
which has been working OK for some years.
Now, when I try to open it the watch hands move and then appear to go
backward slightly. I get an error message "unexpected error 160690"
and am unable to open the stack.
Can anybody help?
Thanks,
Bill
That seems to be a corrupted stack. I'd start with making a
backup copy of your stack. It would be nice if you had an older
backup copy of the stack.
Next, you could try opening the HyperCard application to go to
the Home stack. When you are in the home stack type the
following in the message box:
go card 2 of stack <your stackname>
where <your stackname> is the name of your corrupted stack. If
an open file dialog appears, use that to select the corrupted stack.
If the 2nd card of your stack appears, you know that only card 1
is corrupt. You might check http://www.pantechnicon.org for a
tool to copy all non-corrupted cards to a new clean stack.
Let me know if you get stuck with this.
Best,
Mark

Yes, I have several older copies of the stack which is an "archive"
stack of deceased and unfinancial members of my ex-service organisation.
Fortunately, when I delete a card from the main stack (by means of a
script) I keep both a "store stack" (which I use if people resume
membership) and the archive stack.
This is the first time over a period of some 14 years that I have had
A problem with HyperCard. I guess that says a lot for the original
design of the software.
I will keep you informed of the situation.
Regards and thanks,
Bill
