Picked up a 30" Apple Cinema Display and a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link
DVI adapter, fired it up and all I'm getting is a dark screen on the new
(used) monitor. Both when I tried an older MacBook Air with a non
Thunderbolt Mini Display Port and a newer MacBook Air with a Thunderbolt
Port. System prefs set for Cinema Display to the left of MacBook Air
screen and the cursor will disappear when dragged off the left edge of
the MacBook Air screen. And the second monitor shows up a 2560x1600 LCD
Cinema HD with an Apple Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter
(Adapter Firmware Version 1.03) in Sys Info. The only thing I could
think of was the on/off button or the brightness button on the Cinema
HD. I'm not sure if they're working but nothing changed in any case.
Anyway, I e-mailed the seller (e-bay, someone in western Canada) but I'm
just wondering if I missed something obvious. Just to make sure I
connected the MacBook Air to a Apple 27" LED (no adapter needed) and it
worked fine. Mac OS 10.8.3

The 30" requires the Dual link displayport adapter. There are two
different adapters.

This is the normal DP -> DVI adapter from Apple:

-DVI-Adapter-Apple-Store-U.S..jpg>

The Dual link adapter looks like this:

-DVI-Adapter-MB571Z.jpg>

And is required to run displays that require a dual link. It is,
naturally, quite a bit more expensive as well.

Yeah, as I mentioned, when I tried MacBook Air to 30" Cinema Display I
used the Mini DiplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter from Apple -

No luck.
