anything that's usb compliant and similar in power as the original one.

less power will work but may not charge the battery while the macbook
is being used.

A good quality charger that meets the amperage (power) for the MBP
should be fine. Start by looking up the spec of the Apple charger for
that model and get a charger that meets or surpasses that.

If the price is too good to be true, look further on...

Thanks. So, Costco's FUEL 40 watts (2 20W PD ports) power adapter (Model
#: CM 047290) will not work. Darn it. :(

OK, so Costco's FUEL 40 watts (2 20W PD ports) power adapter (Model #:
CM 047290) will not work then. This is for traveling too.

I noticed some power chargers have more than Apple's 61W. Would getting
higher watts (e.g., 140) make power charging even faster even though it
costs more?

Any recommendations?

Not necessarily. The battery and its charge controller is the limiter.
Higher charger power *might* be faster, but no guarantee, and as usual:
faster means a hotter battery, and hot batteries have shorter overall
lifespans.

Price has nothing to do with charge rate.

it will 'work', but not particularly well.

from your description it sounds like it's 20w maximum per port, versus
40w combined if one port is unused (which some chargers can do).

20w would be sufficient to slowly charge the battery while the macbook
is sleeping, but not enough for when the macbook is being used, which
means the battery will slowly drain, although not as fast as it would
have had there been no charger.

get something with more power. even 40w is on the lighter side.

that depends on the macbook.

i'm not sure what the maximum power draw for the macbook you mentioned,
but it's definitely less than 140w. it's probably in the 60-85w range.

anker.

check their refurb store on ebay for discounted units (and the regular
store too since not everything is available refurb).

Thanks. If I were to get more watts like 140, will it charge faster than
61 watts?

The power charger that came with this MBP is 61 watts.

a little, but as i said in the other post, it's overkill because that
macbook isn't likely to draw more than 80-85w.

a 140w charger would be a waste unless it's a multi-port charger and
you expect to use several ports at the same time to charge a bunch of
devices.

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-GaNPrime-Compact-Foldable/dp/B09W2N774C
can do up to 120 watts with three different connected devices (MBP +
iPhone + battery charger) with 2 different USB connector types.

https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerPort-MacBook-Samsung/dp/B0885SPJDZ
for a third party from Amazon with multiple plug types from around the
world when you travel, but it only can charge up to 65 watts and one
device at a time. They don't have a more powerful one or did I miss it?

you did miss it. there's a 150w listed in the comparison section (at
the bottom of the page):
<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09W2PNLX7>

they also make a 120w four port all usb-c unit.
<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09J1XTLJ6>

check anker's website for all of their chargers (and other stuff).

Cute, but too complex and annoying for travels.
