I thought I had read the appropriate manual, and it didn't help. My wireless
connections shows a wirelkess HP Printer available, but I have no idea how to
access it. Any hints?

I'm on a MacBook Pro under 10.8.3, with a wireless connection to a NetCom cable modem. It
sees HPE710n.5D9766 as an open device.

Now what?

it should show up in the printer popup in the print dialogue. if not,
pick add printer and add it.

If you're connecting the printer wirelessly be sure to enter the network
password in the printer's setup procedure.

As I recall, HP's control panel mimics an old flip-phone's technique for
entering alphabetics, requiring multiple key presses to step through a
range of letters. It also requires an explicit shift between upper and
lower case entries.
