Well, now I have replaced the entire lid/display unit, all at once
(including cable), and still no video. Having already replaced the
motherboard, I am at a loss as to what to do next. Tried zapping the PRAM
with alt/command/P/R while rebooting, but that just puts it to sleep. What
am I doing wrong? What am I NOT doing about the video problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try shining a light into the display and looking at it. If you can see
something then the problem lies with the backlight, backlight power
supply or control. If you can't then the problem is in the video / LCD.

Have you tried hooking an external monitor to the PB5300?

Try resetting the power manager. With the computer shutdown hold the
button on the back for 5 seconds. I THINK that is how to reset the PM,
it's been a while since I did it on my PB5300.

Well, the backlight works, but there's no display of any kind. I did reset
the Power Manager (or whatever it's called) with
shift/cont/alt/command/delete while holding the interrupt button. That took
care of another problem, but not the video. That was when I decided to do
the lit/display as a unit.

Oh, and I don't currently have an external monitor. May need to get one.
Where would I hook it up to?

Thanks for the reply,

On the rear connector panel, on the left side, top is a connector that
you can plug a video adapter cable into. Obviously you'd need the
adapter too.

It sounds like you've lost video somewhere along the way. It sounds
like it's time to open it up and try reseating the video connector.

Oh, I currently don't have the external video card installed. Decided I
didn't need it, and it was too much trouble to put back in every time I took
the damn thing apart.

When you say to reseat the video connector, do you mean the connector for
the brown ribbon cable, top left of the motherboard? I replaced that cable
along with the lid/display unit, wouldn't that count?

Appreciate the help. Thanks,

One more question: is it even remotely possible that I have a dead PRAM
battery, and that this could be causing my lack of video? It boots and
shuts down just fine, but I can't see what's supposed to be on the screen.

Thanks,

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure my PRAM battery is dead, as long as I
keep the battery in it's okay.

Well then I don't know what to do. May just hook it up to my SE/30 as an
external drive and copy everything over before getting a new PB. Not my
first choice though.

Thanks,
