Magic Mouse Sucks

[Suzie-Q]

I'm really unhappy with my bluetooth Magic Mouse. It's so
sensitive that it causes things to move and jump when I don't
want them to. For example, I'll frequently find myself on the
Apple widget page (the one on my MacMini that shows calendar,
weather, and calculator - I forget the correct name for it)
and then I'll have to scroll back to my active page. Or I'll be
on Facebook and find myself being switched to another page that
I was on several pages ago. I blame this on the mouse's extra
sensitivity, and the habit keeping my hand near/on the mouse
even when not clicking or scrolling, as I'm sure we all do.

Is there any way to make the magic mouse a little less sensitive?
I've tried under System Preferences with no luck.

You can turn select swipe gestures on or off by visiting the System
Preferences > Mouse panel. There's no adjustment for the sensitivity of
the touch surface of which I'm aware.

Had to replace mine I found it so irritating --- it wouldn't be bad if
it just required two-finger swiping.

I loved mine too!

Then I tried out the Magic Trackpad and the mouse now sits in the
corner... :)

My iMac came with a Magic Mouse, but when I got it I already had a
Magic Trackpad, so the mouse sits on my desk totally unused. Methinks
that once you experience the Magic Trackpad there is no wanting to go
back to a mouse. And, thinking ahead, I find it difficult to think that
a touch screen computer would outshine the trackpad, given that one
would have to reach upward and outward instead of on the desktop to use
it.

Have you got tap-tap-hold enabled? I do and it helps in multiple
selections.

It is located in SystemPrefs-->Accessibility-->TrackPad Options--Enable
Dragging

Multiple selections take practice. I use three finger drag, so I can tap
and hold with three fingers to start the selection, and then drag over
other items to complete the selection.

One thing has been bothering me lately: I find from time to time (every
few days or so) my fingers accidentally wander too close to the edge of
the trackpad, and click and drags don't register correctly. That's kind
of irritating when it happens. No real biggie though.

In general, I enjoy using the Magic Trackpad more than anything else
I've ever used, and that's what matters most to me. : )

I like the gesture support. What I don't like is sometimes drag and
drop doesn't work for me until I move my thumb from where I'm holding
the mouse.

All I see is System Prefs—>Accessibility—>Mouse & Trackpad
in which there are 2 buttons for mouse-related options.

Ummm...well, yeah....but only after I replaced the batteries and turned
on the Trackpad! (The batteries were exhausted, and I didn't bother to
replace them, since I wasn't using the device. If the Trackpad isn't
connected, its options don't show up in the accessibility prefs!)

(Hmmm...can't seem to get the With/Without Drag Lock options to work as
described. Maybe I need to play with it some more?)

It should be just select the dragging option and tap-tap-hold works
assuming you have tap to click selected in the Magic Trackpad's
preference. That's all I've ever done.

If you are going to be playing with the Trackpad, I suggest
getting BetterTouchTool to augment your gesture based options

I do have "tap to click" selected...but it doesn't work (when I tap with
one finger, it has no effect).

I have Drag Lock set on, 'without draglock' in the accessibility

And tap to click.

Then a tap-tap and hold works fine, if you select 'without draglock'
then it still does, but it locks in until you single tap again.

You are holding on the second tap, right??

I've tried it both ways (Drag Lock "on" and "off"). After a few dozen
attempts, it did finally begin to work....but only about 10% of the
time, during which if I hesitated slightly (or, when Drag Lock was "on,"
if I lifted my finger very briefly) while dragging, I lost the ability
to continue to drag. Currently, it doesn't work with/without Drag Lock.
Clearly, there's something wrong (with either the system, the trackpad,
or me).

BTW: I don't see the point of Drag Lock being "off," as if it's "off,"
it seems that it should differ little from simply clicking and dragging
(tap-and-hold vs. click-and-hold).
