RATIONALE: comp.periphs.scanners
Sales of scanners and other imaging devices have greatly increased in the
last two years. What was once a device only for the professional imager, or
the wealthy has now become a standard household peripheral. Prices have
dropped dramatically over the last couple of years going from a minimum of
$1000 down to as low as $200. Many computer manufacturers are now bundling
scanner with their computers.
There is currently no single comp newsgroup to post regarding these
devices. You can try a graphics newsgroup, perhaps a hardware or SCSI
group, or maybe rec.photo.digital. This results in cross posting to
multiple newsgroups in hopes of finding one that is appropriate or that
can answer your question. With the rapid growth of the Internet, and all the
new users that might not be savvy enough to find the right place, this
seems like the right time to create a group such as this.
CHARTER: comp.periphs.scanners
The newsgroup comp.periphs.scanners is for technical discussion of
scanners and imaging devices to include all types of scanners and OS
platforms. This group is primarily for scanner owners and technicians.
Examples of relevant postings would include, but not be limited to,
the following subjects:
* Maintenance suggestions
* Warranty procedures
* Installation procedures
* Pre-sales questions
* Troubleshooting help
* Operations advise
Examples of unacceptable postings would include, but not be limited to,
the following subjects:
* Spam and/or mass mailings
* Manufacturer advertisements
* Flaming and or Hate Mail
* Binary files, in any form, are discouraged. However a posting may
include a reference to an URL or FTP pointing to such binary files.
