I have a Macintosh G4 450MHz AGP Graphics with 1.5GB Ram. I have two
40GB
HDs for which the first houses the system/applications and the second
just
data. I do NOT have a SuperDrive but have an external FireWire
DVD+/-R/RW
for which I am using Roxio Toast Lite 5.2.1 [came bundled with the the
drive].

I am able to capture movies via Firewire from my miniDV camcorder but
did
not
have any software to convert them to DVD format. After reading about
the
archiving capabilities for iDVD, I purchased the iLIFE 04 software. I
have a
few questions as below:

1) I am able to issue an 'archive' directive to the software [iDVD] to
build
the DVD format file[s] with which I can use the Toast lite software to
actually BURN it to DVD [I havent figured he latter part yet...if
anyone
knows that this is not possible, let me know].

2) After I 'archived' the 70 odd clips [approx 47 min of NTSC], I
noticed
that my disk usage [for which I had approx 25GB available before I
commenced
the 'archiving' process] was down to roughly 6GB free. the archive
consumed
approx 19GB [which is GREATER than the raw capture via iMOVIE which was
about 13GB].

a) I would have assumed that the archive process would have created
the DVD format with compression so my expectation was for the
file[s]
to be less that 4.7GB and not 19GB.

b) I have only a few files [single digits] and a couple of folders
that I can SEE through the finder. None of these [even after digging
into all possible levels of the folder] I CANNOT find the archived
file[s] that would make up the 19GB consumed by the archiving
process
but the 'Get Info' on the second disc still tells me that I have
only
6GB of free space left.

c) Is there any switch I need to enable to see such a sort of an
archive ? are these 'hidden' files ? How can I delete this archive
to restore the free space on the disc ?

3) Is what I am trying to do [use iDVD to create the DVD format for the
clips
and a third-party software like Roxio Toast Lite to burn the DVD format
file[s] to a recordable DVD] not achievable though the combination of
iDVD
and the Roxio suite ? If so can some correct me on what to do from iDVD
?

[I am hoping I did not waste the $50 for the iLIFE s/w....and that I
should
have spent it on another s/w instead :-( ]

Thanks

Juzer
