The Odyssey crashes

I've been trying to try out the shareware rpg game The Odyssey
(v1.3) and so far it has been fun except for a problem I've
encountered. The game crashes whenever I enter a room with a cannon
in it (apllication unexpectedly quit because an error of type 1
occured). I was able to get past this for a while by getting
new copies of the data file from umich, but the game started doing
it again. Has anyone had this problem, and does anyone know how
to fix it?
