on old questions to me. A list (or part of list) of encounters
and things to do would also be nice. Comments on spelling and
the use (missuse) of the english langauage is also acceptet as
long as its well ment. By the way ".se" is Sweden, Europe.

I have no connection to Fantasoft (maker of Realmz). I'm
just a fan.

Information in this FAQ was gathered while playing the
scenario and reading News. The information is hopefully
correct.

I would like to thank the following people who helped me in
one way or the other:

Eric Hsu for helping me with the FAQ
Jim Foley for giving me the address to the author of
PtP and some good suggestions.


1.0 Versions
------------

Realmz 1.5.5.
Prelude to Pestilence 1.1.

(There was a 1.0 of PtP on AOL and compuserve, that might be
around still, with a number of extra bugs and features, see below).

A new version of Realmz (1.6) and PtP (1.2) has just been
released but I'v haven't tried that one yet.


1.1 Register Realmz and PtP!
----------------------------

Realmz and PtP are shareware, so do register your copies of
Realmz and PtP. Details below on how to register.

A registered copy of Realmz gives you the opportunity to
generate characters of level 4 and higher. It also makes it
possible to import characters to new games/versions with
levels above 3.

Also if you want to continue to see good shareware out there
you should support shareware or there might not be any more
good shareware around anymore.

To finish PtP you also HAVE to register the scenario! You
can play aprox 50% without registering. There are two or
three places in the scenario where you will be asked to
enter your reg-code. Once you done that you can finish the
scenario.

2.0 Very short description
--------------------------

The scenario starts down in a small dungeon after a "good"
night out. All your money is gone and you have a limited
amount of equipment. Looking around you will find a) some
equipment b) a hard encounter. Surviving the encounter you
can enter the main outdoor area of PtP. The city Mountain
View is close by. Enter the city and explore it first. The
city is mostly friendly.

There are a lot of people to meet and interact with in the
city. There are Shops and a Temple. There are at least three
ways to get some money by doing things.

PtP is a real scenario. There is a main plot with a number
of things to do, places to see, things to find and monster
to defeat. Once you have solved one thing there are new
things to do and so on. There are a number of things that
can't be done without solving other things first. There are
a number of things that can be solved in more than one way.
Some ways are better than others. Most encounters and things
to find adds up to the great final encounter.

Notice that some encounters and things to do
has nothing to do with the main scenario. Some are random
encounters and some are micro scenarios. Not every encounter
is with bad guys so think first when possible. As stated
before there are different ways to
solve a number of things, some of them will help later,
others will kill your characters and some will even prevent
you from ever getting to the last encounter.

There are a number of items that should be equipped at
certain points and others that shouldn't.

2.1 Encounter-button /menu
--------------------------

The "encounter"-button is working in 1.5.5 and has to be
used a number of times to do things. I think that many
problems finishing the scenario has had to do with (not)
using this new feature.

I recommend reading the manual on this feature!

3.0 Q & A
----------

3.1 Where did all the money go?
-------------------------------

When you start the new scenario all of your characters
loose some equipment (?) and ALL treasure (!). There are new
things to find in the first dungeon before you encounter the
first hard encounter. But there are a lots of treasure to
collect in town and in the dungeon below the graveyard. And
even if you buy everything you can lay your hands on you
will have more money, gems and jewellery than you can carry
later in the game.

3.2 Where is the Sunken Caverns ?
---------------------------------

They are the same as the dungeon under the graveyard.

3.3 Where is Thief's Lost Treasure ?
------------------------------------

At the same place as the "monks payment" in the Griloch
Hideout. Use the map to locate where to walk trough the
wall.

3.4 How do I get out of Spiders Nest after the cave in?
-------------------------------------------------------

Remember the exact location of the cave in. After killing
the spider and getting the book return to the cave in. Hit
"encounter"-button then hit Spell-button or Item-button on
the Encounter-button-menu and cast one of the following
spells: fly and spider climb. Fly worked perfectly for my
group. Dig might also work.

3.5 What about the Castle in the south?
---------------------------------------

The way in is normal secret passages. The castle in it self
is another story. I don't known why it's there. Maybe it was
intended to be something more than it is but if you do it
right, there are a number of magic things to find. There are
a number of "empty" rooms... but search and you shall
find...

Originally (version 1.0) this castle was supposed to be a ruse.
You could see it, but you would never find a way in....

3.6 How do I find Ropolds Belongings?
-------------------------------------

This is a hard one. Somewhere in the woods close to where
the map says, you encounter a whispering voice that tells
you what to do. Do exactly as the voice says. And you should
find the things. I got just ONE chance and did something
wrong.

3.7 Why are some shops empty?
-----------------------------

There are a number of "empty" shops in the scenario. I think
they are meant as a place to store all treasure you find
while fighting Griloch followers before you take the things
back to town. I don't know if it's safe to use all "empty"
shops this way.

3.8 The "secret word" doesn't work!
-----------------------------------

You enter the secret word correctly but you get killed
anyway...

This shouldn't happen on the way in. This is a bug in 1.0!
On the way out, well that's an other story...
Maybe a medallion of the correct kind could help?

3.9 How does one get salvation from the Water Spout?
And where are they? And what to do with the sea, anyway?

3.11 Is there any Gold Dragons in PtP and how do I kill them?

Yes there are Gold Dragons. If you are familiar with a frpg
"Ax&x/x&x" think about what Gold Dragons are ...

3.12 Can't open the box in the Sunken Caverns secret cave.

3.13 How do I uncharm a charmed character
-----------------------------------------

Charm him/her yourself. Dispel Magic can work.

A 1.0 bug? Need something special to open it?

3.14 What to do with the Candle of Summoning?
---------------------------------------------

Part of Thief's Treasure. It allows you to magically inform
everyone of the Thyrr's little mission. It also summons a
high level magic user whom you must fight.

3.15. How do I attack the minotaurs?
------------------------------------

You gotta get through the door first. If you have already
agreed to fetch the Book of Njain, you can no longer attack
the minotaurs. BTW, I thought the author Sean Sayrs(sp?) did
an unusually good job taking all the pleasure out of beating
the minotaurs.

3.16. How do I save Cressandra?
-------------------------------

You need to use the Encounter button. Yes, the mysterious
encounter button that is quite nice but incompletely
implemented so you never know if you can use it or not. Lame
boy scout first aid is not going to cut it, so think of
something else to do.


4.0 Known bugs/problems/...
---------------------------

There are a number of known bugs. Some of them are only
reported by one single person and I think he was trying to
run the scenario with 1.5.4 but I'm not sure about that.

Notice that some of the bugs are only found in version 1.0
of PtP. I'm also told that a number of things was changed from
1.0 to 1.1 eg the Castle in The south. see above.

4.1 Rangers do get spell points at higher levels but my
ranger could never select what spell to cast. All menus
where blank.

4.2 The same happened to my paladin.

4.3 A number of special items and encounters turn up more
than once. Specially down in the dungeon under the
graveyard.

4.4 The dungeon under the graveyard is closed both ways after
the some point in the game, behind an "encounter"-menu.
There is no known way out of that one. The only way to
continue is to reload a saved game and not enter the
dungeon. This can be a problem from 1.0 or something that
happens when you enter the registration code. Not confirmed.

There are some nice stuff down there, gems, experience and
magic items so I recommend that you explore it before
entering the registration code.

4.5 There are rumours that a number of spells doesn't work
and that some others can be used any number of times without
loosing spell points... (bug/feature?)
Only in 1.0?

4.6 One player said that the wagon outside town was empty the
second time he encountered it. I had no problem myself with
that. Nice place to buy magic things! Only in 1.0?

4.7 A number of players have had problems finding the secret
passage to the castle in the south. The were searching and
using spells too. This is a bug in 1.0!

4.8 One player reported that the files that contains the
saved games get changed into plain "documents" that Realmz
doesn't recognise. Try rebuilding the desktop is my
suggestion. Might also be some sort of conflict with other
programs. Also a 1.0 bug?

4.9 Treasure in Griloch Hideout regenerates. This is an 1.0
bug!

4.10 The way monsters and players are placed when an battle
begins is according to my and other players opinion a bug.
One player couldn't finish the final encounter in PtP
because the monster was out of reach behind a number of
walls and has to start the final encounter all over again.

4.11 After playing many hours the screen starts to update
strangely.

After playing for many hours straight (about 7 hr's) the
screen started to update strangely, at first borders around
text were missing then the text started to overwrite
previous text. .

Try to remove some extensions and/or Save, quitting and
reload.
Problems with Express Modem Control has been reported.

After using just about any program for 7 hours straight things
can go buggy since the memory can get fragmented.

4.12 Can't save new games.

After playing for a while the load/save dialogue starts to
report that there is no saved game in a save game slot even
though there is. Trying to load the slot anyway results in a
Finder error 14.

Try to remove some extensions. Problems with Express Modem
Control has been reported.

When you need to open something like a door or box,
select the encounter button, items, and use the necklace.
Locks usually pop right open.

Re: 3.6 Ropol's belongings.

This chapter isn't quite right. In ver. 1.2 the stuff is right where
it is supposed to be, and it's nice at that (This and the encounter
dialog in the sunken caverns are the only two fixes in 1.2
that I have found)
The voice you are hearing is that of the mage (?) across the finger
mountains, giving you hints as how to find him/her.
