Probably the best shareware minesweepergame I can think of (IMHO) is
Sadam's Revenge. It has cool graphics and sounds. It should at
sumex.stanford.edu somewhere in the games directory.

There must be dozens, but the best I've seen is called LandMines, from the
creators of Infotron. It should be on sumex and mirrors in the /game
directory.

You bet you can. There are at least 26 (yes, twenty-six!) different Mac
implementations of the Mines game. Many are absolutely rotten (at least two
recent ones have remarkably poor, un-Macish controls), but some good ones
include MacMines, Bombs, MineField Deluxe and... was it PolyMines? You may
also enjoy my rather different approach in Hexmines.
The essence of the numbers available is that you never need consider paying
for a Mines game. There are always better ones for free. Only half a dozen
of the 26 implementations request a fee.
Connect to any major shareware archive. They are all over the game sections.
Speaking of Hexmines, I have a new version in need of testing. Actually, I
also have new versions of MacSokoban, Classic Daleks and Bikaka that also
need testers. Any volounteers?

I had missed that one. Then there are 27. LandMines is lame, but not one of
the worst.so far. The interface is acceptable, but it has nothing that
over a dozen of the others have. MacMines or MineField Deluxe are MUCH better.
How can a game author write that "no decent game of Mines exist for the Mac"?
Didn't bother to look?
If you haven't been deluged with responses already, I wouldn't mind beta
testing your new version of hexmines.
I have a Powerbook 170 (really a 145, but I soldered a 68882 onto the
daughterboard... it _thinks_ it's a 170), a IIsi and a Quadra 700.

oh i dunno, i liked your hexmines much better... although i havent looked
for a newer version than 1.0, it would be nice if knew to regenerate maps
if it creates an impossible one. Maybe a changable map size too...

I guess you can buy Kensington's SmartMouse just to play Minesweeper ;-)
