It is.

yes.

there's a lot of good to be had from it. once the Cube is asleep,
you have a window of opportunity where they will not fire at you and
you can fill them full o' photons.
the first 10 times i tried this technique i either:
a) did not successfully put it to sleep.
b) put it to sleep but was too damaged to do anything about it.
c) put it to sleep but was too far away (run away!) to get back and
blast it.
finally i had it asleep and in my sights but was so excited i forgot
to beam my away team back before blowing the Cube to smithereens.
sorry riker...
anyway, once i have them at my mercy, i set the torpedo salve to 3
and lay on the torps until they're gone. this usually results in about
15 being fired although i think only about 10 are really necessary.
maybe less. the time you have to do this does not allow for
experimenting by firing 1 at a time until they're dead. then again,
maybe it does and i'm too trigger happy to find out.
happy cube hunting!

Try transporting away teams to the Borg. Of course, it's difficult to
lower your shields in order to do this without getting fried.

you must beam a team over to the borg ship, then, given enough time,
they might put the borg to sleep. it seems like they achieve it 1/3 to
1/2 of the time. it usually takes them about 20 seconds (playing at high
speed).
anyone who has fought the cube will see several difficulties with this
method.
a) you must have your shields down to beam a team over, exposing
yourself to a devastating attack.
b) you must survive for 20 seconds under the cube's onslaught.
my solution to a and b is to wait until the cube appears, then, in rapid
succession, beam down a team, raise shields, and get the f**k outta
there. usually i only sustain minor damage this way.
it's best to flee on manual impulse, usually in a cardinal direction
(0,90,180,270). the cube can't really get close enough to do any damage
when you're going full impulse so you can fly with shields down, saving
energy. then, the instant your team announces the cube is asleep, you
must return and finish it (beaming out your team if you're feeling
generous). the best way to get back is command-T (chase nearest enemy)
but if your computer or warp drive are damaged, you'll have to fly
manual impulse. this is where the cardinal direction helps; you know
exactly which direction the cube is.
again, this doesn't always work. usually it seems your away team
vanishes and your left with a damaged ship and an angry cube on your
tail. either that or you return to the cube just a bit too late and
are assimilated.
happy cube hunting!

Yes this works in the 2.0.2 release it is a bug and it is fixed in the new
version 2.0.3 there is also a pretty cool easter egg in the new version
(the Phaser Cannon) Have fun finding and using it.
