Not sure if I can post user support on this group.. but anyway, if this
is OT please redirect me to the appropriate group.

Last year I installed Mac OS 10.3 on my 4-year-old iBook/G3 (in the
first 3 years I only used Linux on it). Two months ago I installed
several games on my Mac OS 10.3. I enjoy them very much. They are
Commandos 3, War Craft Frozen Crown and Halo Combat Involved.

Last week I wiped out my harddisk, re-partition, installed Mac OS 10.4
on it and found none of the games work any more after they are
successfully installed. Halo start a splash screen, and quite (usually
splash screen is followed by a short movie); War Craft quite as soon as
it launches; Commandos 3 quit as soon as it enters batter after user
selected which stage to play.

At first I thought it's compatibility problem with 10.4. Thus I wipe out
my harddisk again, re-partition and installed 10.3 which used to play
these games well. Surprisingly all these games still doesn't work, and
the behavior is identical to that of 10.4.

Then I did "Software Upgrade" and installed latest patches from Apple,
still doesn't work (same behavior as described above).

Then I installed ATI display driver from ATI website (Radeon 7000 serial
driver, for my Radeon Mobility 7500). Still doesn't work (same behavior
as described above).

I was thinking, maybe, during my last year using Mac OS 10.3, I happen
to have installed some magical software that used to support the games,
like DirectX in Windows world.

What do you install on your Mac OS before you try a game?

I look at the system requirements for the game and make sure my system

software that needs to be installed on a Mac for games to work generally.

Well, we can try. May not succeed, but we can try. There's
folks around here still trying to get Imperialism II to run on their
post-OS 9.0.4 machines.

I think that you may be right in having installed something
forgotten yet magical. I don't know what, though. Can you think of
anything in common of the games that don't work, and have you got any
games which *do* work? Maybe there's something in there somewhere.

Also --- I know this is insultingly obvious but, what the
heck --- have you checked the game web sites for updates? While the
last OS X upgrades were generally pretty pacific (though I lost my old
copy of Photoshop in going to 10.5) they do sometimes earn a patch or
two from the game manufacturers.

Oh I always do that before I buy games:) and in fact the games are
several years ago. I am sure they runs on my hardware because I had been
playing them night after night when I got Mac OS running 2 months ago:)

Any messages produced in your Console and any crash logs produced may
contain a clue as to what is causing your problems. If you aren't sure how
to interpret them, you can post them here and we can give it a try.
