With 3dfx release V3 beta drivers and the cost of a V3 2000 PCI card
with rebate at $100 or lower, what will that do to MacTell's impending
release of their line of V3 cards? Will this be another
"Microconversions" situation. Nobody buys the more expensive Mac
version. MacTell will have to a more competitive price.

Kelvin:

Mactell has no plans to change its current strategy, near as I can tell.
They are emphasizing that 3dfx Interactive has released reference drivers
without end user support; their point is that these drivers are mainly for
developers willing to put up with some shortcomings. Mactell plan to add
value by producing a more robust driver set and providing Mac-specific
tech support.

Only time will tell whether or not their strategy will be successful; my
expectation is that 3dfx and its licensees have tried to map out a careful
strategy in the hopes of avoiding market cannibalization.
