Finally got stuck on avernum 3, need a wee bit of help

Okay, I'm in the golem tower. I've managed to destroy 3 of the four
crystals outside the tower, but couldn't find my way onto the very high
walled plateau protecting the fourth, I can't even fly up there. So I
went in the tower.
I've done a decent job of figuring out the way around, but the golems
appearing all the time makes it rather difficult and slow going. I've
explored one level down except a place I could not reach due to those
laser barriers. I am trying to explore one level up but I can't go
anywhere and I've pulled the lever, but this field of four lasers is
kicking my behind and I get stuck in a little side room. Without using
up all my magic power and potions, how does one get around the second
floor? I guess I'm in the tower second floor but it escapes me exactly
what to do.

The Golem Factory is the hardest dungeon with the Tower of Zkal a
close second. The key to the Golem Factory is the 2nd floor. There is
a control panel you need to get to. The control panel turns off various
things, including the lasers in the lower level. The entrance to the
fourth Golem Spire is from the lower level. You have to take that out
before you can proceed. The control panel is in the lower right hand
corner of the second level. It is painful to get to. here are some
tips:
1. Move in combat mode not town mode.
2. Haste the party. Hopefully you Have Haste (lvl 3) by now. If
not, go to Erika's Tower and examine the books near her throne.
3. Cast Radiant Shield. It reduces the laser damage somewhat.
4. Keep moving. Don't stop and fight stuff if you can just run.
5. The quickest & easiest route is to go east along the north wall.
Turn south when you reach the east edge.
