Lion Entertainment split up. Mark Adam (formerly of Lion Entertainment)
formed a new company called Westlake Interactive.

Lion went belly up last summer (August I think--and just about when Mac
Quake was released). My understanding was that between the Quake port
taking so long and work on some original game projects which never saw the
light of day, money was going out faster than it was coming in... Ken Cobb
and Phil Sulak who (I think) were both working on Quake at Lion
subsequently got together with Mark Adams (who consulted a bit but never
worked directly for Lion that I know of) to form Westlake Interactive, who
have picked up basically where Lion left off (in addition to the stuff
Mark ported independantly). Hopefully they can avoid the same mistakes
that did Lion in.

I don't know what happened to the other Lion employees, such as Bruce
Burkhalter (who I think was in charge of the Quake conversion) and CEO
Douglas Grounds.

Actually, Bruce was the main guy working on Quake (he was getting a bit of
help from Ken). I was working full time on Deadlock, and Ken was starting
on Unreal when Lion closed up shop. I had been working there almost a
year, but poor Ken had just joined the company about about two weeks
earlier. Bad timing. Oh, and for the record, Mark was never an employee
of Lion; he worked as a contractor.

Both Bruce and Doug now work for 3DO. They and another ex-Lion guy, Scott
Osborn, started the 3DO Austin office last December and are now working on
Playstation games. They're a great bunch of guys; I go over there for
lunch about twice a month.

So 3DO is now doing PSX games? Jeez. Next, Apple will be making Windows
games?

How does Trip manage to keep 3DO in business?

Well I daresay they would do it better than Microsoft does Mac games...
(how could they do worse?)
