Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me with this problem;

I am attempting to set up an SE/30 as a gateway machine for my mini home
LAN which at the moment consists of only the SE/30 and a G3 desktop
connected to it via a crossover cable. I want the SE/30 to dial my ISP
whenever it receives a TCP/IP request from the G3 running either mklinux
or MacOS. I have tried both IPNetRouter (latest release and beta
version) and Vicom internet gateway (3.8.x?). I can get the Se/30 to
dial and connect fine and running an app like fetch on the SE/30 results
in good download speeds, however internet apps on the G3 under either
OSes get the first few packets and then just stop receiving packets. I
have tried the modem on both the serial ports on the SE/30.

The SE/30 has an asante 10baseT ethernet card and sys 7.5.5 (including
the ethernet extension that goes with it), whilst the G3 is running 8.1
and ethernet extension 2.0.4

I tried NetBSD on the SE/30 but couldn't get that to do the gateway
thing (due to my ineptitude!!! :-) )

Any ideas out there???

I will try to follow this thread in the NG but I would appreciate if you
reply via email to the address above minus the "nospam" bit.

Thanks,
Hugh

One step at a time.

What version of Open Transport are you running on the SE/30?

Can you ping the SE/30 from the G3 (and vice-verso)?
When dialed in, can you ping your ISP from the SE/30? From the G3?

If there are problems at this stage, you probably have not gotten your
router (IPNR or whatever) working right yet. Try following the
troubleshooting instructions.

Launch IPNetMonitor and try your ftp download again. Are you seeing a lot
of lost or retransmitted packets? Maybe you need to play with
OTAdvancedTuner to get better performance. But, at this point, you
probably should be seeing *some* performance, which is not what you were
seeing before.
