Hi,

Curious if anyone else is having the trouble that I'm having with
MT-Newswatcher hanging a lot now that I'm running on Snow Leopard.

I've tried both the current release and the latest beta. The hangs seem
to be random, but very commonly it'll hang when I try to quit, but I
have seen it hang right in the middle of typing an article to be posted.

Thanks,
Joe.

I haven't noticed any problems since upgrading to SL.

I've had problems with MT-NW crashing when I quit, but they started long
before SL. Disabling SSL resolved this.

Barry-

Please elaborate on how you disable SSL.

My 3.5.3b3 crashes when I quit, but I have tried closing the groups
window first. I thought that would disconnect the news host, and SSL
would no longer apply.

After closing the connection, I've tried changing the preferences before
quitting. About 2 out of 3 times, this seems to let MT-NewsWatcher quit
without crashing. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but the crash is
almost 100% if I quit while still connected.

It's not actually a crash, it's the spinning beach ball of death and I
have to force quit. I am using SSL. Never had a problem before moving to
Snow Leopard. If it's something else besides that I've upgraded to Snow
Leopard, I wonder what it is. It can happen at most any time, it doesn't
happen every time I quit, but about 50%. Most irritating was the time it
happened right in the middle of typing.

I'll try disabling SSL and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

Whoops posted this with a different Identity:

I was going to try disabling SSL, but the nntp server I'm using requires
it, so I need to come up with something else, or just put up with it.

Thanks.

I'm not on 10.6, only 10.5.8. MT-NW VERY consistently hangs if I try
to Quit, though. There was something simple which cured the same thing
a few years ago. Anyone have an idea of what that fix was? Might help
with the random hangs you have, too.

Special->News Servers, Server Options tab, uncheck "Use secure
connection".

Yeah, upgrade to the beta. Required for 10.5 for some reason.

Don't bother with piddly crap like "gun control".
Life is 100% fatal. Ban it.

Well, I'm running the beta and still having these problems.
Unfortunately, I can't turn off secure server for this connection. This
last hang it was just sitting in the background and when I tried to
switch back, the cursor was spinning away. Had to force quit.

As far as I can tell, it solves the problem when the secure connection
is always unchecked. I think the problem may have been there before
Snow Leopard, but not as bad.

If I connect to a server with the secure connection, read the news,
close the connection and then uncheck the secure connection, the crash
may still occur.

I also tried connecting with the secure connection, disconnecting and
connecting to a different server with the secure connection unchecked.
As before, the crash may still occur.
