I am getting a valid IP address from the router (airlink101?)
But it won't allow me to access the web.
I can login to the router's system utility (198.168.1.1).
The status reports that the router is not getting an ip address from
the ISP.
So naturally, I'm thinking that the problem is with the WAN.
But then something interesting was happening.
Other computers, (there are five other machines running either windows
xp or vista) who are all tied into the same router via switch, are
able to access the internet just fine! (including this machine that
I'm using to write this post.)
I couldn't believe it. I checked their cables and they were all
leading to the same router.
The computers are all set for DHCP.
Here's the part that I really don't get. On the pc's... their gateway
address is 198.168.1.254
????
Yet, I can't access 198.168.1.254 through the browser.
I don't get it.
Anyway. I'm thinking it's a PC setup vs MAC setup because all the
pc's are working fine but my mac and my airport express (when
connected as a bridge) are not working.
Any advice?
If their gateway address is .254 and yours is .1, you're not using the
same router as them. You mention an Airport Express, how does it fit
into the picture? How is everything really wired together?

Noted. And I think you're right.
This pc's computer's gateway is .1
So is my mac when I connect using the same ethernet.
There is another pc who has its gateway set to .254
The airport express is unplugged so it's not a part of the network
anymore.
I think there might be another device that I'm not aware of.
I just browsed to the .254 from the computer whose gateway is .1 and I
got a log in window.
So... even though this pc is getting a dhcp from .1 there is another
device .254 doing something...
I'm going to check up on this. Will post results when I get back.

Set your Mac TCP/IP Router address to 192.168.1.254, and see if it
will allow you to reach the WAN. Just because 192.168.1.1 is doing
DHCP, Doesn't mean that it is also the Gateway Router to the WAN.
These can be done in separate boxes. LIkely the Network Admin
has something else happening and you really need to talk to that guy.
