If you create a new file, then the 'save' shows up. Otherwise they auto
save when you close the program. I haven't dug around to see if you can
change that.

Lion now saves files automatically, like Time Machine you can step back
through all the changes you made to your document.

OS7 has auto save built in like FileMaker Pro. when you open a an
Application and create a File you close it and when you open again there
you are right where you left off. I'm hoping third party Apple (Word,
etc) at least retain Save As... Because I don't put any files in the
documents Directory. I have files organized in different directories.
The idea of one place to put all files is a super dumb Ass idea.

Is it capitalized because it's the next version after they've run out of

No not particularly :-)

Have they use the Ocelot?

They could to go birds of Prey.

The Eagle, the Owl, the Falcon, The phoenix, The condor ?

Then go to Canines, The Wolf, The Coyote

If they go like they seem to be after OSX.7 it will be iOS just like on
the iPad.

I am talking about OSX.7 Lion. They have no Save or Save As....

you open application, start working and close when fooling with it. You
have no control over where and what director to put files. I like to
organize my files like using a Filing cabinet.

For example I use DreamWeaver to work on my website, I have a specified
directory that I put my web files in. In OSX.7 there is no longer away
to do that. every thing is saved for you you have no control over where
you want placed and it makes multiple copies of files. Then when I use
Interarchy to upload the files I have a Mirror down load set up to makes
sure the files on my Web site are the same as I have on computer. You
have no control over that.

I was referring to your assertion that placing documents in the
Documents folder is a "dumb ass idea". It's nothing of the sort.

> You have no control over where and what director to put files.

Incorrect. I am running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), and all of my files are
right where I had them before I had 10.7 installed. Nothing has changed.

> I like to organize my files like using a Filing cabinet.

Me too - within the /Users/me/Documents folder, I have 106 (yes, one
hundred and six) items, many of which are folders used to categorize my
documents, and may of those have their own sets of subordinate folders.
Lion hasn't changed that at all.

> For example I use DreamWeaver to work on my website, I have a specified
> directory that I put my web files in.

Same here. I keep my web development files at:

~/Documents/Projects/Internet/

> In OSX.7 there is no longer away to do that. every thing is saved for you

Incorrect!

> and it makes multiple copies of files.

No. Mac OS X 10.7 transparently keeps multiple versions of the same
file. There's a difference.

Sorry, but that's just plain incorrect!

Are you basing your statements on actual experience with Mac OS X 10.7,
or just stuff you read on the net?

Based on description at Apple.

Right now I don't have a Internet Connection capable to download Lion.
I'd have to be on my DSL Connection 28 hrs straight to download.

According to Apple, you can walk into any Apple store to download it
over their fast network.

Or you could wait until they start selling it on USB stick in late
August.

Why not just "save as" twice, changing location?

In Lion the is no Save and Save as Command in the file menu. If you
want to know how it works download and try out FileMaker Pro.

The first time you create a new file you have the option to Save. There
is no Save as in Lion you use the Duplicate command. I think its stupid
but Apple thinks different.

Or you need to learn how to use Lion. If you use Save As in order to
save a copy of a file under a different filename, now, instead, you use
Duplicate followed by Save.

It's not rocket science.

I do wish Apple had the sense to make these an option, however. I
understand that Apple doesn't intent to make too many options available
as it seems to overwhelm many users to have too many choices, but it'd
be nice if this were at least accessiable in some "advanced" option
screen. And, of course, whether to use Versions or not is not being
forced on application developers by Apple - developers have to choose
to use Apple's Versions system or not. Apple, of course, has chosen to
use it in their own apps (Pages, Numbers, etc)

Apple's implementation of (and interface - or lack thereof - for
managing) Versions is still, in my opinion, a work in progress. We've
discussed this here in great detail (along with me performing various
experiments).

Versions is, when used as intended, really really nice in that it's
seamless, effortless and easy. But it's important to understand what
it is not - it's not a true revision control system, and it doesn't
allow you to carry your file's history if you move your file from one
file system to another.

But so long as you are working on one file in one place, it's really
nice. You just don't have to think about it at all. I don't think of
it as a revision control system but rather as a smart rollback system
for work within a single session on a given file.

And if, like me, you not only want to keep the version you're working
on, but you want to make sure you have proper historical "landmark"
versions, the way to do that is, in fact, what we've always done with
Save As - you duplicate the file and rename it (either within the
application itself with the Duplicate command, or in the Finder by
copying the file and renaming the copy before opening it).

Avoiding Versions is a very silly reason to avoid Lion. It really
doesn't force anything on you. As far as I can tell, the only really
strong reason to avoid Lion is if you still need Rosetta. And with the
newly released Quicken 2007 for Lion, there's one less major reason for
folks to avoid it.

Every time I've "up"graded since OS 9.2.2 and ClarisWorks 4, I've lost more
than I've gained in choice and control of anything I have any use for. At
least with AppleWorks, nothing major was destroyed completely, but OS 10.6
destroyed even more than Pages. Preset templates? What nonsense!
