I had been working on a spreadsheet in NeoOffice, closed it, ate
supper, opened it, and it was in read-only format. (It's possible
that I might have clumsily pressed some key combination that caused
this.)

I could not figure out how to restore the file to editable. The
NeoOffice help was useless. After closing and reopening NeoOffice
several times, the file loaded as editable.

My question is: does anyone know how to switch a file from read-only
to editable in NeoOffice (or OpenOffice)?

Quit Neo, locate and select file in Finder. Get Info (Command I),
double click the lock icon at bottom if closed. Change the permission
to read and write to the appropriate user, click the lock again and
then open Neo.

AND/OR
From the menubar, NeoOffices->Preferences->NeoOffice->Security->File
sharing options for this document
(also found at Tools->Options->NeoOffice->Security->File sharing options
for this document):

Make sure 'Open this document in read-only mode' is turned off and also
check the settings via the Protoect button to see if a password was
somehow set.

How did primitive man survive?
Bound by lust, he couldn't count past five.
In the hustle to stay alive,
He sidetracked.

He put on clothing and an ordered mind.
Left his instincts all far behind.
He dropped his rhythm, and picked up 'time',
And now he's out there lookin' for a ride back.

Thanks. If it's that hard to clear the read-only status, I wonder
how it got set in the first place. It doesn't appear to be something
I could have invoked inadvertently.
