I have exported it from MacGourmet in the correct format and it shows on
my desktop. When I go into MasterCook and attempt to import it, I can't
see it! Navigating my way to Desktop, the only items that show are
disks and folders, no documents. If I open a folder which contains
documents, those documents show. So I thought if I put the exported
file into that folder it would show up. No dice. Is this because I'm
trying to move an OSX file into an app running in Classic?
I tried another tack, exporting the file as a .txt file. Now it shows
in the list of available files (along with the disks and the folders)
but when I import it there's nothing in my MasterCook Import window to
choose.
Phooey.
Thanks for your patience and your help.

Since Mac OS 9 still relies on the type/creator codes of files, it's
entirely possible that it's not showing up because your OS X app isn't
putting those on the file. If you can find out what they are, you
should be able to find numerous programs for use in OS 9 that can change
the type/creator codes on the file to the ones you need.

Well-written classic Mac applications have 'BNDL' resources that tell
the system the creator type of the application as well as what filetypes
they support.

Try dragging the exported file onto the Master Cook icon and see if that
works.
It did not. Thanks for the thought, though, Stan. I'd already tried
dragging and dropping the exported file into my MC cookbook to no avail.

That's because the file type is not once that Master Cook supports. Use
a resource editor to look at the BNDL resource of Master Cook to see
what file type you should use.

I've just started using MacGourmet recently so my efforts have
concentrated on importing rather than exporting rather than importing.
MacGourmet supports the import of several MC formats (3 or 4). However,
I'm not sure that it exports all of these. If the format you're
exporting isn't compatible with your version of MasterCook perhaps
there's another MC format available that would work. Or you could try
one of the other generic options. Importing one of these generic types
will likely be more work - finishing touches with added with the edit
tools in MC - but at least you wouldn't have to re-enter from scratch.
Just took a look at their website - the user forums appear to be
unavailable. Don't know if that's a temporary problem or not.
