Mac 6100 with System 7.5. The Speech Manager and Macintalk 2 extensions
are both in place, SimpleText has text selected (and copied to the
Clipboard) but the Sound Menu has "Speak all, Stop speaking and Voices"
greyed and unavailable.
Is there a Control panel or something I've not toggled on?

Try checking (About This Macintosh from Finder) how much free memory you
have left. You may need more than 1 MB extra for the voices to load and if
that 1 MB is not there SimpleText (or any other speech compliant application)
will simply not speak.

This memory is *not* included in the allocation to e.g. SimpleText so check
for memory *after* you have launched the application you want to speak.
