I have GraphicConverter, so I could convert the file to whatever format
necessary. I have downloaded but not installed Gimpshop. I do not have
Photoshop or PS Elements.
I'm using an iBook G4 running OS 10.4.11.
Thanks.

Gimp can probably do the job -- but not until you install it 8^}

numerous ways. it depends what kind of look you want. if you want to
spend a lot of time you can colourize different parts with different
colours.

i use photoshop but these techniques should be doable in other apps:
one way is add a new layer, fill it with whatever colour you want and
set the blend mode to screen. experiment with various blend modes and
opacity for different effects. multiply gives a different look.
another way is use the channel mixer.
i think the best result is using the photo filter and picking a colour
'filter.'
You're a lot of help.

There's plenty you can do in GraphicConverter. Filter > Color Effects >
Sepia Tone will make it sepia. Explore the other filters, for example,
False Color to see if any do what you want.
Thank you. False Color did just what I was looking for.

Using Graphic Converter:
Convert the image to Indexed Color, 4 Colors (Picture -> Colors -> Change to 4
Colors).
If the Toolbox isn't visible, press command-K to show it.
Click in the foreground or background color box and drag off the Toolbox to get
the color palette, which shows the colors currently used in the image.
Double-click in the last black square and choose the color you want. It should
replace all the black in the image with that color; if not, try again with the
other black squares.
You can now convert & save it to whatever color mode and file format you want.
Hah! I did manage to install it and get it to run, a year or two ago. As
soon as I did anything with it, it locked up solid.
It hit trash pretty quickly...
