Doesn't happen very often but on two occasions now widely spaced apart
by about a month when booting the system from being totally shut down, I
have gotten a full normal boot to the desktop but no mouse available.
The arrow shows normally in the upper left corner but won't move at all
when the mouse is moved.
On both occasions I have used the keyboard to reboot the system
(cmd/cntrl/eject) and regained the mouse.
Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue or/and if I'm handling it
the right way, and if known, is there something I should be doing that
might cure the issue?
Many thanks

What model mouse? Wired or wireless? If wired, have you tried
unplugging and plugging the mouse back in? If wireless, have you tried
resetting or power cycling the mouse? Have you tried logging out and
back in rather than a complete restart?

Interesting questions.
It's happened first with the Mighty Mouse about a month ago and that of
course was wired. The latest mouse is a Logitech wireless Laser with the
Logitech software installed.Battery charge shows 85%.
Both times the same symptom as described.
I believe I did unplug and replug the Mighty Mouse when that happened
last month, but this time I rebooted the computer using the keyboard and
the mouse driver loaded normally.
By power cycling the Logitech, do you mean simply disconnecting the USB
receiver unit and reattaching it again. Actually I didn't think of doing
that as an option. Would this be better than restarting the system? Not
sure what you mean by logging out. I'm a single home user and haven't
set up any passwords for computer access. I just use the power switch to
boot up and a normal shutdown procedure if shutting down. Other than
that I just let the system sleep most of the time when not in use.

This certainly isn't a common problem. So I'm wondering what, on your
system, could be causing it.

Yes.

Yes, because it's faster and doesn't require you to quit applications
and restart.

Sounds like you have the operating system set to automatically log you
in. you can see that setting here: System Preferences > Accounts > Login
Options > Automatic Login.
So the Logetich Control Center is opening on boot. I wonder if it
conflicts in any way with the system mouse drivers available in System
Prefs/keyboard and mouse?????

Probably because your news client cut part of the URL off. Did you
examine the URL bar of your browser and compare it to the link in my
news post? I'm betting part of the end is cut off.
Anyway, here's a tiny URL that goes to the same page:

Basically, according to the web page, uninstalling Logitech Control
Center is not very straightforward. The page tells you how to completely
uninstall it. The tiny URL above should get you there.
> I went into applications and found an uninstaller and used that.
Interesting. According to the web page I gave you, there was no
uninstaller. Maybe Logitech added one at a later date.
