There's some end-user reviews at:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/firewire.html
Basically they say don't buy one if you have a Blue&White G3.
I've got a Formac dvdram on order:
Main difference is that it is bus-powered and doesn't need a transformer
wart. Here's some questions they answered for me via email:
>> Does the drive require/include software drivers, or does it work on a
>> Macintosh with Apple's built-in drivers?
>
> The drive requires its own device driver from Formac.
>
>> I'm concerned about noise. Does the drive have a cooling fan? Does
>> the drive 'spin down' when not in use?
>
> There is a small, 1 inch fan in the case. The drive is capable of power
>management.
>
>> Does the drive require the optional power supply when used with a
>> Macintosh G4 Cube?
>
> Any Macintosh with built-in Firewire should be able to provide enough
>power the DVD-RAM. You might need a power adapter if you daisy chain other
>firewire devices.
