The Find window floats above the document window, but it doesn't look like
a floating window. It looks like an inactive window. This is in
violation of the very specific guidelines on page 138 of the Macintosh
Human Interface Guidelines. And pages 139-140, for that matter.
The Find window uses pop-down menu buttons. If you've never heard of them
before, it's because they're another Microsoft invention that replaces a
standard Macintosh user-interface item (the popup menu) with a
non-Macintosh-standard Microsoft non-user-interface item. Tom Saxton
stated that these were used because popup menus take too much room. I
state that this is not a valid reason for coming up with a completely new
user interface item. You need to re-think your dialog design if a popup
menu uses too much room...
Microsoft Word does not like Jasik's Debugger, which I use more often than
Word to get my job done. Every time I run Word, enter The Debugger
(whether or not Word is frontmost), The Debugger crashes. Or, if I quit
Word, The Debugger crashes. I don't know why this happens. I haven't
tracked it down. Jasik is supposedly looking into it. To me, this is
just another instance of a Microsoft product breaking other software, when
no other program does.
Thanks, I feel better now. :-)
