hello my name is robert and i just started working with DVD studio pro
version 1.5.2. the problem at hand is when i go to preview my project
it starts to play the video and then comes to a hault and nothing
happens. i checked all my actions with the completed tutorial and i
am right on. i did however recieve an error code -32008 data rate is
too high. i understand what that means, but i am not sure why this
is. the video and audio together is about 600 megs. i exported my
footage from FCP 3 via the quicktime MPEG 2 setting which gives your
video file .m2v extension. the amount of space indicator at the top
of the program window shows that i have plenty of room. i am not sure
where to go from here. i dragged and dropped all my files into the
assets window because i read that there are bugs with the import
option when it comes time to burn your project. anyway do you have
any solutions and am i clear enough on the problem i am having.
thanks for any help or input.

When you exported from FCP there was an "Options" Button in the lower
left hand corner of the "Save" dialog box, right next to the format
dropdown where you chose MPEG2. One of the items in the Options window
is a "Bitrate" slider with a scale of 1 to 9.8 (Megabits per second).
This is the "data rate" referred to in the DVD SP error message. It
does not need to be higher than about 5 Mbps for most purposes. I can't
tell you the exact point at which problems begin, but be wary of rates
over 7 Mbps.

You are right about where his problem is. However, I have found that I
can use 8 Mbps and standard audio without a problem. That is pretty
much the maximum though. Anything higher and you have to use the A-Pack
stuff to compress the audio down more.

I can definitely see the difference between 8Mbps and 5MPbs. Depends on
your source material and the amount of movement in it. My talking heads
were shot on BetacamSP with excellent studio lighting. Starting with a
really good master is important to getting the best results.

First off I want to say thanks Davoud for the input. I have a new
problem. Everything is working fine, but when I format and build the
disk everything checks out and when it goes to write the disk it just
sits and spins for hours and never writes the DVD. i burned a DVD out
of iDVD and that works fine I burned a data DVD just to make sure the
burner was not out. These are 3 month old power mac G4s fully loaded
and I can not complete the project. I also built the DVD and tested
it out in the player before burning and it worked fine. I have the
latest upgrade for DVD studio pro 1.5.2 and still no luck with getting
the final output. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Here's a DVD Production FAQ for beginners
http://user850490.wx8.registeredsite.com/features/dvdfaq.asp

You may also want to visit 2-Pop: http://www.2-pop.com
2-Pop is pretty much a Final Cut Pro site, however, they do have a DVD
production forum with a lot friendly people who might be able to help you
out.
