I had been looking forward to trying File Buddy, but it seems they
have parted company with their web hosting company (http://www.skytag.com/
has been down for a month).

What other good Finder-integrated file metadata editing tools are there
out there? I'm looking for things that do Mac-specific info like
Spotlight/Finder comments, file tags, and ACL manipulation.

SkyTag was File Buddy's domain name. If it's been dead for a month, with
no forwarding address or other information, it's likely that the company
has gone to join the choir invisible. I used File Buddy for many years
but was finally worn down by their irksome approach to serial number
registration.

The current Mac file utility that's closest to File Buddy's Swiss army
knife approach is Path Finder, $40 with a fully functional 30 day trial.

I downloaded Path Finder and it does offer many options. Not sure I
need it, but maybe I do....

Hm, strange, SkyTag and the other links are working fine here...

Thanks, Erik. There doesn't seem to be any way to buy File Buddy.
Sure looks like it's been abandoned.

Which gets you to a generic page at Kagi, where searching on "File
Buddy" gets you to a page that's about version 8 and has two links, both
useless. Kagi doesn't appear to be handling File Buddy any more, but
SkyTag's web site hasn't been updated to reflect that.

That doesn't help anyone who wants to buy File Buddy, since the "buy
now" links on that page take you to a generic page on Kagi.

It appears the Kagi store for File Buddy is not operational, making it
impossible to get a licence key, as several people in this thread have
already said.

It is still possible to download File Buddy. The page doesn't mention
Yosemite support for the latest version, which suggests it is no longer
being maintained.

A message shown to me on 5 February indicated that the author was in the
process of unsnarling a mess with his hosting provider. As of today,
the site seems back online. However, as others have indicated in this
thread, the Kagi link for actually purchasing a license is invalid, and
redirects to the main Kagi site.

I'll give Mr. Harris a chance to get that online again as well, but in
the meantime, I'm going to check out Path Finder with its 30-day free
trial.

Right, but clicking on 'Buy Now' takes you to Kagi... - I'll suggest the
OP to contact SkyTag via the mailaddress under 'Support' and ask how to
pay for it...

Hey everyone, my name is David and I own Skytag Software and File Buddy. I had no idea people were talking about File Buddy here, or I would have come in earlier. Yes, there was a problem with the website a could years ago when my dad (the creator and founder) got sick and passed away. I've done my best to keep things running since then.

The big news today is that I updated our website and posted the first early access pre-release of File Buddy 11. It's fairly limited right now, but I'm going to be publishing new pre-releases over the next few months while I rebuild File Buddy from scratch.

You are all welcome to try out the pre-releases, file bugs, etc to help make File Budd 11 the best it can be.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your dad. I have been using File Buddy since v3.4.8.
Currently I am using v10.0b2 which I managed to purchace after this
web-site-related trouble from Kagi at 2012. It runs OK on OS X 10.11 and is
still my preferred app to set file dates and zapping resource forks.

Not sure about the bulk renaming that I sometimes use it for, but if it can't change dates, I can't really use it. Ugh. Back to the search.

It looks as if there's a new File Buddy 11 on it's way. Alpha 3 was
released 21. Jan 2019. You can download it here.
