Does anyone else experience "The Finder unexpectedly quit" messages when
running OS9? The Finder is still there and everything seems to still run
OK although there have been times when the system has hung shortly after
this message appears.

I've seen that too. I think it's an error message bug. If I don't give
in to the re-boot instinct, things seem OK.

It quits and restarts itself, hence the screen 'flash' and the crash
soon after. Best to restart straight away.

Unfortunatly for us OS 9 users there could be numerous reasons for this
such as dodgey extensions. Trash "ObjectSupportLib" if you have it.
There are other conflicts but that one saved me some Finder crashes. I
was initially a bit pissed about how often my new G4 crashed, but
somehow, over a few weeks, I've sorted it out, got rid of all the
conflicts and it's been up for a whole month now without even a sneeze.

Have you tried trashing the Finder prefs? This has solved so many
problems for me that it's now one of the first things I try when stuff
like that comes up.
