App for recording to mp3

I am looking for a programm to record with my PB directly to mp3 (OSX)?
It should be freeware - if this is possibly.

Try the freeware AudioX from http://www.realmacs.co.uk. It is a
simple recorder that makes Quicktime audio files. iTunes can read
these and turn them into MP3's. I've been using it to copy from
records. Works fine. It has Audio Level meter and a pause control to
let you flip the record.

For something fancier (and still free) try Audacity
(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) which can edit and fix the audio in
addition to recording it. (Used this to remove clicks and pops.)
