Is there a Mac Mini Freeware DVD burning software that DOESN'T use the internal dvd software?

I have an external 16x USB2 dvd driver, the firmware is up to date, the
disks are good quality. Tiger is bang up to date.
But it can take literally hours to burn even a 100Mb onto a DVD disk.

What ever app I use, it always seems to use that thing with the stripes that
always sticks on 99%.

Often, I can just abort it and eject the disk and it seems to have written.

The burner works at 16x on a PC.

Is there some kind of freeware I can use that will at least burn a simple
dvd, reliably?
