I have iPhoto 6.0.6 on a Mac G4 running 10.4.11.

It works fine until I try to empty the Trash, which contains 1,318
photos; then it crashes, or rather "quits unexpectedly". Reopening it
produces the original situation. I have tried repairing permissions.

Is there any other way of getting rid of those photos to free up the
space? There doesn't seem to be a Trash folder inside the iPhoto folder…

It's beena long tile since I used iPhoto 06 but I seem to recall that
there was always a "trash" (icon or action) within the iPhoto app.

That's happened to me. too, more than once. Try creating a temporary
"junk" album, put all your "to be erased" stuff there, and move only a
few at the time into the trash, then empty it.

Eventually, you'll get them all cleared out. Emptying only a few at the
time seems to keep it calm ...

That icon is the iPhoto equivalent of the main trash folder, not a
button to empty it. You empty the trash with menu iPhoto/Empty Trash.

Thanks Isaac, I'll give that a go.

Didn't work: any attempt to delete even one photo crashes the app.

Try opening the app while holding down Cmd-Option, and then select to
rebuild everything. Which will take a while ...

You may have to do it more than once, but in my experience you always
manage to delete a few photos before it crashes.

Since I got mine stabilized, I'm careful to never even try to delete
more than a few photos at once, and I haven't had a crash in a long time.

Found the solution on the 'Net, from "ray" -- at least, it works for me:

http://www.theosquest.com/2007/03/18/iphoto-empty-trash-crash-returns-yet-another-fix/

'All I had to do was go into iPhoto preferences and uncheck “Show item
Counts” then I could empty the trash. I’m able to leave it enabled when
I use iPhoto and only have to turn it off when I empty the trash.'
