I bought MS Dictate and after *much* trouble, was finally able to get
it to install (problem: my username was in Japanese). Now, I'm finding
that it doesn't want to update me to version 1.0.1. Instead, it says
that my release 1331 is the latest one.
Is that the case? Is release 1331 (version 1.0.0) the latest --- or do
I have something wrong with my install again?

Release 1.0.0 (the original release) is the latest.
For a brief while, MacSpeech issued release 1.0.1
However, a little later the "pulled" 1.0.1 according to
Chuck Rogers, because there was an "issue" with that update.
Chuck did not elaborate.
MacSpeech has not changed their website the last time
I checked, so it falsely appears that 1.0.1 is still being
offered, because of their website.
BTW, welcome to the ranks of MacSpeech Dictate users.
I assume like the rest of us, you are waiting for updated
versions of 'Dictate.
Have you had a chance to play with 'Dictate yet.

I sympathize; I'm a polyglot who can read/write four non-Roman
languages. But you have to make compromises sometimes. Not entering a
username in Japanese unless the software explicitly states that it
supports that is one such compromise. "Doctor, every time I do this my
back hurts." "So, stop doing that."

There was a 1.0.1 update, but MacSpeech pulled it. I believe that you
have the latest version.

I've been playing around with it, but I'm a teacher and the inability
to add words (such as student's names) is really killing me since
these days kids have very weird spellings for even regular names.
Karen
Yes, I can appreciate that.
In my case, I am so desperate to get a good speech app'
to run native on a Mac that I am willing to put up with
the present version, as long as MacSpeech shows progress
in adding essential features.

I'm a Mac user with a disability who is debating whether to purchase
the MacSpeech VRS. Though I know that Dragon Naturallyspeaking is
still superior, I'd much prefer to use software supported on a Mac OS
rather than have to switch to Windows. Like Karen I'm somebody who
works with Japanese. I understand that MacSpeech does not yet suppose
foreign text, particularly non-Roman alphabets. What I'd like to know
is your experience writing Japanese names and terms in romanization. I
also hear that MacSpeech does not yet have correct as you go or
spelling functions. I should imagine this would be a big problem if a
lot of the text you are dictating has foreign words in it. I hear that
you can upload sample documents for it to analyze, but how useful or
efficient is that?
MacSpeech yanked the 1.0.1 update shortly after
they released it, no explanation given.
They never updated their website.
MacSpeech is VERY sloppy with their website.
It is now well over two months since they first
offered MacSpeech Dictate 1.0.0 and there appears
to be no changes whatever to their website.
