It sort of worked. When I put it in the DVD tray
on my Mac, it launches the DVD player but it always
says Not Permitted no matter what I try.
I can play it with VLC and it looks pretty good but
it is broken into 5 separate files and each one must
be started separately.
It would be nice if there was just one file and it
would play in the DVD Player or maybe Quicktime.
Am I using the wrong software.
Is there something else I should be using?
What did I do wrong?
I think I followed the instructions correctly, but
maybe I missed something.
Help please.

Are you talking about a burned disc from the backup files? What did you
burn with?

After running DVDBackup you should be left with its "VIDEO_TS" folder to
whereever you saved it. That folder can be opened and played directly
from the Apple DVD Player application. Select "Open VIDEO_TS FolderŠ"
from the file menu. Make sure you don't have a DVD in the computer at
the same time.

Thank you Reginald.
I never tried that. I just tried the play button on the controller
and that didn't respond, but it works fine now.
Now, if I can only remember what I did.

Also remember that you can't simply burn the results if the size of the
backup exceeds the DVD-R limit of 4.7 Gig.
Yes, that's what I'm up against right now.
The first DVD I copied was less than that so it was easy to just
burn it with Toast.
But what do I do with one that is 7.6 GBs?
Is there a way to compress it to fit, even if I lose a little
image quality?
What about converting it to mpeg4?

Yep. Go to <http://www.dvd2one.com/>
Works great!
You can do so, but it won't work in a DVD player anymore.

Some DVD players support (S)VCD. I know mine also supports MP3s (no
tag information is read though.).

But SVCD is MPEG-2 (VideoCD is MPEG-1). There are a very few newer DVD
players that will also recognize MPEG-4/DivX/Xvid, but that technology
is fairly new (at least in hardware).

Thanks for your help.
DVD2oneX worked great, putting the 7.6 GB movie on One DVD
and it looks very good.
But I had some problems when I tried to do a second movie.
DVD2oneX kept "unexpectedly" quitting when I hit the Start
button. A couple of times it quit after about 5 to 10 minutes.
I must have tried more than 10-15 times before it worked again.
I have no idea why it worked the last time but I finaly got
a good copy of the second movie too.
Could the problem be related to Panther?
What system are you running?
That's OK. I only watch them on my Mac anyway>

Its for free and you can buy better versions...but this one works -
all you have to do is install the BSD subsystem (found on OS X 10.2 CD
1)

Doubt it's Panther but I haven't used the program since upgrade. I'm
doubtful since I've seen this behaviour pre-Panther as well.
