...on a 1998 Van Diemen Honda!

<https://static.wixstatic.com/media/5e6366_ec4c38e8461c4ed3a47e0d5737cca0d9.jpg/v1/fill/w_551,h_342,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01/5e6366_ec4c38e8461c4ed3a47e0d5737cca0d9.jpg>

I don't know if that's my car or its sister, but that's what I'm buying.

A professionally prepared RF98 for Pro Formula F racing...

...sold to a guy for $43K who discovered he couldn't get medical
clearance for a racing license...

...sold to a guy who raced it once before deciding he'd rather race one
of his vintage cars (like his 2-time Indy 500 winning Provimi Veal
sponsored Lola)...

...and then sold to me.

At $25K, it was just too good to pass up.

Wow, you finally followed my advice and ponied up the money for a modern car with a real engine. The SCCBC FF crowd is going to go ape-shit. Good luck, I hope it works out for you this summer! That's an incredible price too.

Well thank you for that, Liarboy.

But I followed my OWN advice. I've known I wanted a Honda-engined
Formula F since I started having to keep a Kent in tune. For a club
racer, the convenience of an engine with electronic ignition (no
ignition timing to adjust), electronic fuel injection (no carburetor
jetting to change with changing conditions) and an alternator to keep
the battery charged (no need to charge the battery like the total loss
Kent-engined cars) is worth a lot. Not to mention that an engine running
with a restrictor and therefore operating at less than the stresses it
was designed for.

It just wasn't worth the $40K that had been the going price.

So hey: way to try and give yourself credit for something I knew before
you even knew why the name is now "Formula F".

Liarboy, I seem to remember you passionately defending the antiquated Kent against my criticism. I seem to remember that I pointed the main Honda advantages (restrictor plate, FADEC, and fuel injection.) The alternator I missed. You said "so what" and continued to ramble on about the Kent.

LOL. There is going to be some major buzz in the pits when you show up on April 20!

Alan Baker

Then you are misremembering or (more likely) simply lying again.

What I defended was the Kent's PERFORMANCE against the Honda's, not its
ease of use. In fact, quite the opposite: I pointed out that the reason
a whole bunch of professional teams now ran the Honda was that it eased
the workload to keep a car running through a busy racing season.

But please, feel free to provide actual quotes, Liarboy.

Complete quotes only, thanks, with the text to which each was in reply.

:-)

>
> LOL. There is going to be some major buzz in the pits when you show

No, Liarboy. There will not. Because there is no reasonable way to keep
it a secret that I've bought a Honda.

I'm sure they will... ...but that's not "major buzz" when driver's come
over to check out the new car in the paddock. It's very minor buzz in fact.

Major buzz is when Ian Wood brings out his vintage McLaren to do demo
laps during the BCHMR.

Alan, you grossly misunderstand the difference. A Kent in top tune may have the same power, but that depends on it being in top tune. The Honda pretty much tunes itself over a broad range of RPM. The computer sets timing and mixture. There are no carb floats or jets, or distributor points, weights and springs. It's also a lot more reliable, and needs less maintenance.

If it does break, you can buy many parts at a Honda dealer, and you have factory support to lean on.

How about a cite for these website too? Specifically, back in the period

Hmmm...

That's the older RF98K Van Diemen (you can tell by the shape of the side
pods and the roll bar), not the more desirable RF98 Formula Continental
converted back into a Formula F. Mine is this car:

<https://www.quantumracingservices.com/f1600>

And I do mean, that particular car.

In 1998, Van Diemen designed a new chassis for Formula Continental and
only updated the 1997 car for Formula F.

And then there's the fact that that car is a Kent, not a Honda:

'Fully rebuilt Kent engine in spring 2015'

Spring 2015 means 3 seasons of use, which for a Kent means in need of an
immediate rebuild.

And lastly, I looked into buying that car and spoke to a friend who runs
a very good race shop in Ontario, and he warned me off buying it.

:-)

But, hey: you go right ahead and show me a Honda-powered Formula F you
can buy for that amount.

:-)

Simple facts, Michael. Like the simple fact that the kit to convert that
Kent-engined car you found to Honda power is $15K... ...and then there's
quite a bit of work to finish the conversion.

But fortunately for me, the guy who sold it is rich enough (actually
rich enough; not like your imaginary wealth) to own quite a few toys
(like the two-time Indy 500 winning Provimi Lola), and he's selling off
the ones he doesn't want. I was just looking in the right place at the
right time.

If you have the scratch—given that you're a "multi-millionaire" this
week—why don't you buy his Formula Enterprise. He's selling that for
$25K, which is also a pretty good deal.

Or if that's too fast (or too rich) for you, he's selling two Formula
Vees for $10K

I mean that company that sold it to the previous owner from whom I
bought it. Racers are a great community and they're more than willing to
help out other racers, so I contacted the company who used to own and
run it in the pro series about it before deciding whether or not to buy
it from the current owner. Wendell had no stake in lying to me, and I
also know what cars like these actually cost.

You pointed out a car that doesn't have a Honda and from which I was
warned away.

Actual text from my friend with the race shop:

First message:

'I hesitate to say this but be prepared to spend a bunch. They sold a
rf91 to a friend of mine and it's take a bunch of work and money.'

Second message:

'It has been sold, came to near here. It needs a total restoration
which the fellow intends to do. I won’t say what I really think of the
condition.... '

But you go ahead and tell us how clever you are to find that car.

Do I seem demented to you? How so specifically?

You seem to be unable to live up to your own vows to yourself.

How do I know that, you ask? You're here.

Google 1998 Van Diemen RF98.

Twenty YsO!!!

Plenty of perfect ones out there for sale at $12K - $15K.

Like they say, there's a SUCKA born every minute. And those used car salesmen are great in reeling in the assholes.

Yeah, the used car salesman reeled Shitstain in like the fish IT is. Got 10K -12K more than that shitbox is worth.

Kinda like how we reel IT in, here.

The car salesman probably said to Shitstain Baker, "with a car like this you could WIN, instead of losing all the time"

And Shitstain, being the idiot IT is, actually believed..... a used car salesman!!!

Have you found that $15K Van Diemen Honda yet, Michael?

Let me help you out a little:

<http://hpd.honda.com/racing-line/racing-line-store/part.aspx?program=formula-f&number=06000F21SC201>

So tell me, Michael:

Since the kit to convert an RF99 (which will also work with the RF98 FC
that my car started out as) costs $16.5K...

...how do you suppose you're going to find one for $15K complete?

And that is total BS. You repeated what I already knew from web searches.
Namely, that the Honda Fit is a much better engine than the antique Kent.

It should be amusing to see how well Shitstain does next racing season. IT probably believes that a, he, he, he "better" car, will allow IT to win.

But the problem was never the car. The car just didn't crash into all those other cars on it's own.

Plus, Shitstain is frightened of speed. You have seen the videos of IT toodeling around like IT was on a Sunday drive, haven't you? IT likes to take turns wide and slow and cut into passing traffic because IT can't seem to steer and think at the same time.

My grandma could outdrive that Asshole.

Unlike you, I can and do prove what I say:

April 29, 2017:

<https://speedhive.mylaps.com/Sessions/4349431>

Not just first in class, but first overall, beating both an FC driven by
eventual winner of that class for the season and an F1000 which is a car
with a lap record more than 6 seconds better than the FF. My best lap
was only about 7 hundredths of a second slower than the best lap of the
race (by the aforementioned FC).

August 19, 2017:

<https://speedhive.mylaps.com/Sessions/4563542#all-results>

First in FF and second overall behind a much, much faster car driven by
a four time SCCA Runoffs champion.

The car is much newer than yours, Shitstain, or don't you understand that a much newer year costs more money. And $18K for something four years newer is $7K less than what you got screwed out of.

It's not a Formula F.

It wasn't for sale, but it was sold and you don't know when, and
therefore you don't know the exchange rate at the time of the sale.

Oh, and don't forget the greater cost of shipping from Europe which

No. It can't. You can't run anything in FF that doesn't match the rules
found in:

<https://www.scca.com/downloads/40283-gcr-march-2018/download>

Which says:

'Formula F: A formula for single-seat, tubular frame, flat bottom,
open-wheel racing cars using standard Ford 1600 “crossflow” pushrod
engines, or a Honda Fit 1500 (L15A7) overhead cam engine, with firewall,
