How to end this entire problem in one move:

DUMP WINDOWS.

Put Linux on your existing PCs. Or go Macintosh. Or go some other
form of Unix.

Just GET THE HELL OFF FRICKIN' WINDOWS!

This is SOOOO easy folks.

Get the clue please.

Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been
equalled for ease of use, and I want my computer to be a tool,
not a challenge.

I couldn't agree more, but I don't see anything being done until
legislation is enacted to force Windows users to treat the digital
highway with the same respect they treat tarmac.

A licence should be needed before a Windows user is allowed to go
online. The licence would be issued after the user passed an internet
driving test, demonstrating the need for safe surfing.

Should their PeeCee become infected they'd lose their licence for, say,
three months, and their machine would have to be certified malware free
by a recognised authority, just as cars have annual roadworthiness
tests.

Mac and Linux users would of course be exempt, since these platforms
contribute nothing towards online malware.
