Haha, talk about breaking links :)

Wow, that guy has got to be the rambliest old guy ever. Is he pretending
to be 18 or what?

Anyway, here goes:

"Pro users don't move Mac Pro's, so why is it mobile all of a sudden?"

It isn't. It has a handle. The current Mac Pro has a handle.

"Mac Pro's are heavy duty work stations"

True, but that doesn't need to be reflected in the actual *weight* of
the unit

"No internal expansion, we have X, Y and Z in our Mac Pro's, you can't
add that to the new"

Yes, you can. The expansion is external, but it's still expansion. You
weren't going to lug it around anyway, remember, gramps?

"Someone said thunderbolt is faster - Who cares?"

*PRO USERS* care, Einstein.

"I can have four fast internal disks, if they are external, they each
have a power supply and each take up one thunderbolt port"

No, they don't, idiot. You put them in a raid enclosure. Duh.

"Good luck when you get a faulty cable or someone "borrows" your
external drives"

Wtf? What kind of people do you let near your computer? Hobos and
Nashton? Secure that shit and shut the fuck up.

This guy just had no clue what so ever about profesional computing and
the needs of professional users. He seems to have that in common with
you guys :)

A Xeon processor, ECC RAM and dual workstation GPUs are not for
'prosumers' or 'home users' -- the whole premise there is ludicrous.

This machine is not designed to be everything to every workstation
customer, but it absolutely is targeted at the workstation market, and
for the use cases it's designed for, it's quite compelling. The best
description I've seen of it so far is that it's a "tactical nuke for
video production".

got any kinds under 3?
you'd be surprised what you can find on the floor someday

this thing now needs provisions for attachment of a kensington lock
(so that you won't find it on the floor someday

I have a heavy pc midtower at home and would not dare to put
a mac mini in there given how easily it rides around the desk at work

i guess I could weigh it down with a monitor or smth

Kids? Under 3? No, not any more... :)

Don't have babies on the floor in your office, should be a good practice
for any company, right?

We're talking about professional users, not home users.

the fun. :(

This is the kind of guy that complains for the sake of complaining, and
hoping that Apple-bashing will give him extra views...

Hmm. Just how many pros will return to the Mac after all these years?

Very few, I'm afraid.

Got any proof that more have left than have moved TO the Mac, Niklas?

You ARE aware that the Mac has been outgrowing the rest of the PC
industry for quite a while now, right?

And that it's market share is up over 10% in Canada and the US?

Given the choice, I think prospective Mac Pro owners would prefer the
option of a case in a form factor more like the current one. But no,
we'll just be offered the single choice.

I'm not so sure you are right. The few around here that are Pro users
are all waiting to order this new one and are looking forward to it. I
don't doubt some would like yet another tower, but I'm not sure they are
the majority.

I would bet that there are far, far more current Mac Pro users who have
added nothing to their Mac Pros that would need the current form factor
than who have added something. Perhaps internal hard drives, but that is
the thing most easily added externally with little or no sacrifice in
performance.

I've got a friend and client who's got a current Mac Pro tower, and I
could see him using the ability to run an extremely fast Thunderbolt
array in a closet next to his office.

Now you're an expert on how loud various drive options are!

He makes cartoons for a living. That's like the least important job in the world.
