Is there any Linux distro for Motorola M88K processor? It's for a Data General
Aviion (sp?) computer that is based on Motorola M88100 processor.

Don't seem to be any, you could make a cross compiler, as gcc does support the
m88100, and start to build a small m88100 environment, I guess you could get
some help of the guy who has ported quite many gnu tools for DG/UX.

I will check this (it's for a friend).
and if there is any other free OS (Linux/*BSD) to the M88K... I remember seeing
some BSD.

OpenBSD does support VME's M88k based machines
http://www.openbsd.org/mvme88k.html
Don't know how it's with NetBSD, don't manage to connect to their page at the
moment (www.netbsd.org).

I don't know if there is any Linux distribution for m88k, but have
a look at the BSDs. NetBSD[0], if I remember correctly, is famous
for the incredible forty or more architectures it has been ported to.

NetBSD has only for m68k which is totally different from m88k (m68k is CISC,
m88k is RISC) :(
Did you check Debian? Last I heard, it had been ported to a number of
architectures. And also have a look at the Linux Ports Project[0] at
linux.org.

correct URL.)

I don't know about Linux, or even a Free OS, but there's just got to be a
commercial BSD out there for it...
Try posting this to comp.os.aos. It's the old Data General AOS/VS newsgroup.

OpenBSD is available for some models of 88k boards.
