Patents related to Motorola 88k architecture?

Hi,

does anyone have a list of patents related to Motorola's 88k
line of CPUs? We're considering to create a free/open source
implementation of the 88k architecure in VHDL and don't want
to step on anyone's toes (or get ourselves into trouble ;-)).
This is purely for research purposes at the moment, but the
results might of course be interesting for general embedded
use.

Alternatively, is there still someone at Freescale (I assume
the 88k intellectual property was transferred to them) who could
provide information on this topic and/or get a clearance for an
open source implementation of the 88k architecture? I'm afraid
there are not many people left at Freescale these days who even
know what a 88k CPU is :-/...
