I've purchased a lot of stuff from them, and they've always come
through just fine - always got exactly what I paid for with decent
ship times. Make sure you pay for the Preferred Buyers Club (I
think that's what it's called) because it allows you to take an
additional 10% off many items (if not all).
Also realize that a lot of what they sell are closeouts or
discontinued items (hence the great prices).

Damark is a reputable mail order retailer. I've bought numerous items
from them in the past with no problems at all, including returning goods
for refund that I decided were not exactly what I wanted after receiving
them.
Product quality is not a Damark issue, per se, any more than any retail
store is "responsible" for product quality. Product quality is something
that the manufacturer of the product is responsible for. Damark merely
sells products made by many different manufacturers, including some very
respected brand names. If you're not satisfied with the purchase within
30 days for any reason, you can return the item to Damark for replacement
or refund.

I have purchased quite a few items from them.... including 8 PCs just
2 months ago. They are reputable.

I think I bought a halogen lamp from them a long time ago. :)
It still works.

I used to buy from them a lot. Then, I had several very bad
experiences with them, mainly because of their shipping department.
These problems included shipping delays (as long as 5 months in one
case), misrepresentation of charges, and lost merchandise. On one of
these occasions they lied to me about the order (saying they had
shipped it, a few days later saying they *hadn't* shipped it, then
saying that the shipper had lost it, then saying that they never had
in stock and never would - whew!)
On the other hand, except for shipping problems their customer service
people have been very pleasant and helpful on the occasions I've
needed them, and they usually try to compensate for their screwups
with discount certificates.
So, my advice would be to use them without fear, but not for anything
where delivery time, or even delivery at all, is crucial, and be
prepared to be pushy when their shippers screw up.

No dispute about Damark's reputation. I've bought items from them myself
over the years.
I would point out that perusal of their catalogs suggests that the models
offered are often those that have been or about to discontinued by the
manufacturers. It is common in such circumstances for the manufacturer to
sell off their remaining inventory of such a model at a considerable
discount to retailers like Damark who in turn sell them to the public. The
reason that a model is being discontinued isn't necessarily part of the
transaction between the manufacturer and Damark however. If a model is
just being superseded by another model, you as the buyer are being offered
a model at a reduced price just before/just after it has been replace by
the latest/greatest whatever from the manufacturer. However, occasionally,
a model is dropped because of poor design, excessive repair problems
referred back to the manufacturer or other similar problems. It's not
always clear from Damark's catalog when a product falls into that category.
Another thing to watch out for is the "remanufactured" buzzword in the ad
copy. This means that a product was returned to the manufacturer under
warranty, run through a repair shop and then sold as "like new".
Typically, these have reduced or no warranties, although in some cases a
full warranty may be supplied. READ THE ADS CAREFULLY!

First they substituted a notebook which was not what I ordered; It was
larger, and much heavier. They told me it had a 1 year warrenty then
three months later told me, in liturature that looked identical to what I
had gotten before, that the warrenty was 6 mo. By that time, the screen
had gone bad, and when I told them they sent me to the company that made
it who informed me that when Damark orginaly bought the machines they
were told that there was a 6 month warrenty.
Damark would not respond to my letters. Long story short, I got a full
refund on my credit card, which Damark claims they did volentarily "to
insure customer satifaction"
One guy at work tells me me knows two other people who have had problems
returning things to Damark.
I have bought one thing since, but it was no where as near as expensive
as the notebook computer, and it was manufatured by a large national
company.
I have purchased several things from Damark and always felt that I got a
good deal. I have even purchased "remanufactured" products from them with
good results. If you want to save money by staying a bit behind the
cutting edge, Damark is a good place to do it.
I ordered an acer notebook from Damark. It should arrive by Jan 27,
97.
I'll post my own opinion afterwards.
Thanks again
