HP wanted $104 just to troubleshoot.
If you don't want to click on the video, when I plug the power brick in,
the blue power ring LED pulsates. I can hit the power button until my
finger breaks - nothing.
Tried the same thing with the battery removed and plugged in - nothing.
Motherboard?

Did you try just on battery alone?

This flashing light indicates there is a power problem. This can be the
AC adapter or something inside of the laptop. I would remove everything
you can like the following:

Hard drive and the CD/DVD drive.

Now try it. If the blinking goes away one of these is drawing too much
current.

Now try with one less memory card (if there is more than one). Nothing
changes, swap with the other one.

Next remove the cable on the motherboard that goes to the LCD. Now try
it.

Since this also uses a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M video, the video card maybe
removable. And a lot of NVIDIA used in laptops does fail soon after the
warranty.

Hopefully one of the above will stop the light from flashing and that
will be the bad part. If none of this works, it is either the AC adapter
or the motherboard.

Yes - no change.

It appears to be drawing too much current with one memory card removed
and the hard drive installed.

Why doesn't Apple have this problem with the nvidias?

With the hard drive removed, the power light doesn't flash anymore?

They do! Although Apple will still repair most of them even out of
warranty for up to 3 years.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

Also Apple is considering of never using NVIDIA anymore.
