For anyone who is interested....I bought the Compaq R3240US a month ago. And
I love it..

my little review ...

The Compaq R3240US has everything. DVD+R (CD-R), 60GB HD, 512 ram, 64 bit
processor, wireless G card, FireWire, etc...the list goes on. I am a big
Unreal gamer and this works great! Also, Visual Studio .net 2003. No
problems. It is built strong and screen looks great (DVD widescreens look
amazing). What do ya know, Compaq (HP) even included all the
driver/application CD's. I was able to wipe it clean and put on XP Pro
(then drivers and apps) seamlessly! Even the (Blow/Cheap) Dell 8600 is
about 1800 for the same specs. I got this for 1349.00 at Best Buy. Highly
recommended!!!

Just wondering...does it get hot and how much time do you get from the
battery?

The A64 notebooks are nice. I almost bought that one, but chose the
eMachines m6809 (A64 3200+, 512MB, DVD+/-RW, 15.4 widescreen) due to the
much much better GPU (ATI 9600 vs. GeForce4 MX440) and larger HD(80GB vs
60GB). If 3d wasn't an issue, I would have chosen the Compaq or HP A64
machine. Net price: $1329 The two machines are eerily similar to one another
as far as hardware is concerned.

I have run it for 8 hours (plugged in) and it does not get hot! Not on the
keyboard or under the machine. Maybe a touch under the machine if you have
it on your lap. But I usually have it on a table/desk. It has plenty of
vents. And runs extremely quiet.

Battery is okay (about 2hr 30min).

Hope this helps...

The advertised screen is 1280 by 800. Yet I have 1680 by 1050
resolution. Is yours the same, and if so what is going on???
