ThinkPad 77x - converting to FAT32; TrackPoint disabled after logoff

1) Has anybody tried to convert the C drive to FAT32? Whenever I try I get
stuck after rebooting with a message about configuration of the sound card.
The machine must then be rebooted and the conversion is cancelled.

2) Also: Whenever I log off and on again, the TrackPoint is partially
disabled (the middle button) and remains so until the machine is restarted.

Any input?

I managed to solve problem 1 by disabling ConfigSafe Autocheck and Norton
Antivirus AutoProtect. After that the conversion went smooth and took no
more than 10 minutes in all.

Problem 2 still prevails, though.

BTW, if any of you have problems defragmenting your drives (due to disk
activity) try to disable the ConfigSafe. That did the trick for me.
