Bentley is pleased to announce the availability of Bentley's Digitizer
Tablet Interface Driver for Intel x86 Windows. This new driver enables
MicroStation users to utilize a variety of digitizer tables and tablets
in the Windows environment without requiring a WINTAB driver from the
digitizer vendor.

All,
There was a slight mix-up in the above posting - the new
Bentley Digitizer Tablet Interface (DTI) is located at
ftp.bentley.com/pub/tools/drivers/DTIWIN.ZIP
This interface is intended for Intel x86 Windows NT, Windows 3.1x
and Windows 95 running MicroStation V5 or MicroStation 95.
Note the file may be converted to an executable format and be named
DTIWIN.EXE in the near future.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

My apologies if this appears to be a duplicate message. It looks to me that my
original message got lost.
Is there any support for resolving problems we have encountered with the Bentley
WINTAB driver? It appears that the subject would be addressed in the release
notes but was left out; at least I don't see it at the end of the document.
The major symptom of the moment is that wintab.exe cannot open any COM port on a
particular PC. There is more to the story later.
Also, I have some feedback on the setup instructions. There are instructions in
the read me to unzip the files into the ...\ustation directory. The first time
through I missed those instructions because it appeared to me that the install
procedure was covered in the release notes. Perhaps a reference in the release
notes to the readme file would help.
Now on to my problem. The background information is:
* We have an IBM P90 system that we used with the Intergraph 1813 tablet under
NT 3.50.
* When we upgraded this system to 3.51 (service pack 2) the digitizer stopped
working.
* The Intergraph WINTAB drivers are installed but the service is disabled at
this time.
* The Intergraph help desk informed us that this tablet is not supported on
non-Intergraph PC's.
* We decided to purchase a Kurta tablet and move the Intergraph tablet to an
Intergraph box. This was just before Kurta sold their tablet business.
* We have not been able to get the Kurta tablet to work. As we were trying to
get it up and running the new Kurta support outfit was not available to us.
* At this time I don't think there are any Kurta drivers loaded but I am not
certain of that; I wasn't the one who loaded or unloaded them.
Trying to get the Bentley drivers to work, we have done the following:
* loaded the drivers to the wrong directory and configured and tested them. They
would only function in Mouse emulator mode.
* loaded the drivers to the right directory and tried to configure them. Now the
drivers are unable to open any COM port on this workstation, regardless of which
directory.
Ordinarily we use a Logitech mouse on COM1, which works fine. When setting up
for the digitizer, we install an IBM mouse on the mouse port and use COM1 for
the digitizer. I have also tried COM2.
To see if I had any idea of what I was doing, I also tried the install on an HP
Vectra. After a similar false start I was up and running. Back to the IBM, with
a new install from scratch, I still cannot get the software to recogize the COM
ports.

Jim: Should you have any technical questions regarding MicroStation or
things like the Bentley Digitizer Tablet Interface, you can always go
through your MicroStation Value Added Reseller (MVAR), the Bentley
support group at mailto:Sup...@Bentley.com or, if you subscribe to
Bentley SELECT/CSP, you can go through the channels that are
identified in the SELECT Welcome Kit or on the back pages of any
Client Server newsletters.
BTW, I assume that you have the latest version of the DTI? We just
posted the most recent one Aug 20.
