I recently (Received 12/17/94) purchased a Pentium 90 system from Royal
Electronics, Inc., City of Industry, CA. At the time of the order, two
weeks ago, I asked for (and received) written assurances that my system
would not contain the Pentium FDIV bug. I wasn't really sure how they
could do this, but I felt that I could hold them to their word.

Now, the system was delivered (you guessed it!) with the bug. I called
them immediately (got run around) and finally was told that Intel had
assured them their chips were bug free, that I should call Intel.

This sucks! I am a consultant to a large DoD client and require accuracy
in the work I do. I know I can go through Intel and get a replacement,
but shouldn't I have a recourse through Royal. I just feel like it should
be on their shoulders, THEY gave me the guarantee.

This sucks!!!!!

Is this a joke post? You mean to tell me that you have a guarantee in
writing of a non-defective chip in your purchase and you don't know what to
do?

Hint: small claims court, and ask for punative damages (time and cost to
go to court, etc)

Royal Shmoyal... I have never heard anything "good" come out of Royal
computers, except the price.

Small claims court? Something tells me I'm better off starting
with the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Affairs division of the
Chamber of Commerce. I just think it might be difficult to get action
from across the country.

The BBB stuff will be on their record if they don't resolve it for you.
More than a few of these will hurt them badly. I always call the BBB
before I deal with somebody I don't know.

Also, keep posting to the net, wherever and whenever appropriate. Put
the gist of it in the title so even those who don't read it will see
what you are getting at. That kind of thing is inexcusable. Those guys
promote themselves as high-end suppliers and they obviously knew what
they were doing. Consider faxing letters to "Computer Shopper" and
(their) local papers.

If you still can't get satisfaction and have given it a good try,
consider faxing to (say) the top 20 city newspapers (business and
otherwise) by circulation a letter explaining the problem (Intel's
problem, not Royal) and how it affects their readers. Or post
a list of the fax numbers and ask others to fax letters in their own
words as well. If you are really pissed off-- that ought to do it.

Still waiting for a call back from either Intel or GW2000.. dammit.
Still not a lawyer.

Umm, don't most companies have some sort of return policy? If you
don't like the system you can return it within 30 days right?

Why not just send it back and get your money back. You won't have a
computer, but at least you won't be stuck with a computer you don't want.
