My only complaint is that (at least with my monitor) one cannot fully dim
the monitor with its manual controls.
I use the monitor side by side with a SONY Multiscan HG, and am equally
happy looking at other; for XGA (interlaced high resolution), the IBM
monitor shows a little less flicker to my eyes. With XGA fonts under
Windows 3, the monitor (and video board) are very impressive.
I used the 8515 with my 8514/A adapter first with windows and now
under OS/2, plus with a number of standalone programs, such as
worprocessing (WP), graphics (gif viewers, etc) and so on. I
used a number of other monitors while waiting for the 8515 to
be delivered. Under all conditions it is very good, and more than
a match for the TVM, no-name, NEC, etc that I used. The colour,
brightness, contrast and convergence are all top notch. I like
the front mounted controls, although the brightness/contrast
knobs have little effect (I frequently turn mine off, but leave the
machine running, overnight).
The relatively small size for high res is not too bad (and would
be fine for VGA). Sometimes 1 pixel wide lines, such as in fine
text, can be hard to read. So, you pays your money and gets
what you gets...
A couple of negatives I am happy to live with: It is not
multisync, so you only run at VGA or 8514 resolution. It does curve
quite sharply at the corners and mine is noticeably fuzzy on the
top left corner. It does flicker quite badly when horizontal
lines are close together, but this is a rare event and is as
much a feature of the adapter as the monitor.
Overall I am very pleased with it.

I would like to know how the IBM 8515 compares with the NEC 3D and
the Sony /Seiko trinitron. Which one is sharper ? Which one is
best on the eyes ? (It will be used mostly for VGA, not 1024x768).
Also, IBM claims that the 8515 has Very Low Magnetic Emission (or
something similar, I don't recall exactly), conforming to Swedish
standard. Is this correct, and is it indeed something to care
about ?
Thanx.
